I have been busy making my own range of cards made from my enormous collection of vintage ephemera.
Prayer sheets, story books, photos, stamps, vintage cards, antique postcards…
Each card is handmade with 100% pure LOVE. I really enjoy making them, stitching and laying out the design, they are all unique and totally one of a kind.
I made a few with a lovey dovey feel for all you cupids out there.
Valentine’s day is not far away, and neither are the anti Valentine’s Day cards which are on their way from Canada.
They are hilarious, my fav is the “pop quiz valentines day card” I will post a pic and let you know as soon as they arrive!

We also have some really lovely serving cutlery in store, I love these edwardian cake servers below. Imagine serving petit fours at a tea party, SO divine!

I also really love all the crystal and glassware that we have too. How sweet are the antique belt buckles below!

Welcome back to Newspaper Taxi, we have just come back from a working holiday up north and have brought back a truckload of vintage treasures.
We have lots of rustic Australian kitchenalia including early enamel ware, wooden handled utensils, Camphor chopping boards, vintage ceramic ware, depression glassware and silver cutlery.

A few of my customers have been in this morning and we have all been chatting about new recipes and meals we have been cooking over the holidays. If anyone masters some Bourke street bakery recipes from the new cookbook i’d be more than happy to taste teste for you!

I love to spruce up the kitchen table with vintage crockery, bone handled knives and a gorgeous Australian Eucalyptus chopping board for a stylish summer snack platter when friends pop in.

We have some really lovely depression glassware in store. Lots of pretty vases for summer blooms on your windowsill. I love to use them for fresh herbs in the kitchen. They would even look quite cute full of pens and pencils on your desk.

The little eucalyptus chopping boards are super cute. The colour is stunning and they are the perfect size for small kitchens. We also have lots of vintage cutlery. Ice tongs, sugar cube tongs, serving spoons, ladles and whisks!

We have a very lacy, romantic window at the moment and it softens the light coming into the store. I really like the way it shines through the glassware. So pretty!

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I’m sure some of you are still on holidays and others have had Sydney stay-cations and are now back to work. My break went SO quickly, but it’s good to be back in the shop. Recharged and inspired by my country home. It was so much fun to be back up north. I just need to hold onto that mentality and not get caught up in the uber hustle and bustle of sydney. A few people have already commented that the shop feels very “North Coast” with all the new stock. Which is good because that’s what I was channeling- The interior of a run down farmhouse in the Channon hills. The only thing we are missing is a dirt floor and some green grass out the front!
Happy new year and all the best for 2010. Xx

“Self Portrait- Broken Heart”
I would like to share with you the work of a very lovely friend of mine Yiwon Park
I fell in love with Yiwon’s work the first day she came into the store. We started chatting and she gave me a little postcard of one her works which I have up on my workroom mood-board. Her imagery is very secretive, I find something very soft and quiet about her work and I love the awkwardness of her hiding characters.
“I was born in Korea and started painting in early childhood. I graduated as a Bachelor of Fine Art from Chu-Gye University for the Arts in Korea and subsequently attended life drawing and painting courses at both the Julian Ashton Art School and the National Art School in Sydney. I exhibited my work in Korea, including a solo exhibition at Choi Jung-Hwa’s Sal Bar in Seoul.
I always try to figure out what the art means to me or to the world. The meaning changes continuously as life has been changing. I work to capture emotions in memories and especially specific moments in my current life. Those moments become memory again.”
