Rustic Green Industrial display

This is a new piece in the store. It’s a depression era metal cupboard storage unit. Originally it would have sat horizontally but it’s been made into kitchen storage for onions and potatoes.
The finish on it is just amazing, the most beautiful shade of fresh mossy green. The little handles lock and the numbers are so cute. It’s going to be hard to let this one go…

Blue Butterfly Display

Orange Oriental Display

One of my favorite things is styling the store. I love putting stock together and I really enjoy finding new and creative ways to display objects in the shop.
The blue glass rooster dish above is one of my most treasured pieces at the moment. He comes apart and has a decent sized dish in his bottom half. Great for jewelry or little bits and bobs.
A customer came in a while ago and bought a chicken doorstop. She said she collects chickens. They have to have a purpose though, no ornaments for her. So perhaps my little blue boy will find a new home soon.

Castle and Things

It’s always exciting when you discover a new shop or a designer in your city. I love the Sydney Magazine and I picked up the December issue and found “Castle and Things”.
Founded in 2008 by Rachel Castle, the brand represents a love of beautiful, often handcrafted or handprinted pieces for the home.
Check out her super cute linen christmas cards!

Get Comfy

Here is a little selection of cushions I would love to have in my house. Matt and I had an idea the other day to make pillow slips out of vintage band T-shirts. He had this lovely old dark blue Miles Davis shirt that has stretched way out of shape, so I suggested we make it into a pillow. Shirts like that are always so soft because they have been worn to death and they would be just perfect as a standout cushion. I really need to buy a sewing machine!

Here are two of my favorite Artists who use embroidery in their work. I fell in Love with Tracey Emin when I was in first year at art school. I then found Ghada Amer and was madly influenced by her imagery. I was studying printmaking at the time and the line work of her embroidery was an inspiration for my own practice.

That reminds me, a friend of mine still has one of my Emin books. I really should invest in some bookplates…

Pompom Pudding

This is my wall collage above the counter. Jurianne sent me the cutest little pompom gift tag with the angels to wish me luck. The flowers are old drink coasters that were my grandmothers and all the rest are little pieces of paper ephemera I have found along the way.

I am so happy with the little pompom. It’s funny that I should be given one as my friend Natalie was saying just the other day how she wants to make a pompom rug. The colours are so lovely on my little one and it’s so soft. I just have to keep it up high so Mr Whiskers doesn’t get to it.

Luke has been helping me in the shop today. We finished making the Nanni Daddi Birds and were treated to a delicious bread and butter pudding from Black Star Bakery.
It was so lovely and It looked so amazing. Chris really takes a lot of pride in his pastry art. I didn’t even have time to take a picture, Luke and I ate it up quick smart!
I can describe it for you though, sweet bread, lots of plump sultanas, candied orange rind and vanilla bean custard. Yumyumyum X
