Tag Questionnaire

Posted in Taxi Cab Confessions | 1 Comment »
I was tagged by the lovely Concrete and Honey…So, here are the rules:
Step 1: Respond & Rework – Answer the questions on your own blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.
Step 2: Tag-eight other un-tagged people.
What are you wearing now? Vintage skirt as a dress, woven leather belt, and a long cream linen vest with a pompom trim.
What is the title of the best book you’ve ever read? The Heart Garden by  Janine Burke
Who was the last person you hugged? My fiancee as he left for work this morning, happy I had cut his hair!
Which item from your closet are you wearing most lately? A gorgeous vintage indian cotton Kaftan I bought from a market for $6.00
What’s for dinner? Leftover Italian Meatballs and Couscous I made last night.
What was the last thing you bought? Pretty postage stamps to send out some of my handmade cards.
What are you listening to right now? Mamie Minch the album Razorburn Blues
What would be your “Money is no object” Art purchase? Tracey Emin quilt or “Riding with death” by Jean Michel Basquiat
What is your favorite weather, and why? Hot summer afternoons. I love being able to go for a swim at the beach after work.
What time do you usually get up? It varies, generally by 8.30 a.m I’m downstairs feeding the cat and drinking coffee.
What is your most challenging goal right now? Running my own business.
Say something to the person who tagged you: It was really lovely to meet you in my shop! I knew that I would know you through some round-about connection… Sydney can be a small city.
If you could have a house-totally paid for, fully furnished-anywhere in the world, where you want it to be? Up in the hills on the far north coast of NSW. It would be a rickety old farmhouse that I would fill with depression era furniture and my collection of Hilary Herrmann paintings, the breeze would blow in the windows through tattered lace curtains, In the morning I would collect eggs from my chickens and I would spend the day tending to my big vegetable garden and painting in my studio behind the house and as the sun went down I would relax and have a long soak in an old claw-foot bath.
Favorite vacation spot? Hat Head, it’s like the old Byron Bay.
Name the things you cannot live without: Matt and the cat, my creative and inspiring friends and family, my local news agent and bookstore, sweet treats, a journal and a black pen, handmade soap, my green bags at the supermarket, and a good kitchen sponge.
What movies can you watch over and over? 200 Cigarettes, Basquiat, Betty Blue.
What scent do you wear? Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel and Patchouli
What is your favorite tea flavor? Chamomile with milk and sugar.
What are your daily rituals? Cleanse and moisturize, coffee and computer, I sweep the footpath at the front of the shop and brush the cat with the broom- he loves it and waits for me to open the shop every morning! Oh and a Green tea after dinner.

Mirror and books

I had fun last night cleaning and re-styling my bathroom. I decided to incorporate some brighter objects to work with the yellow tiles.

Coat-hanger and curtain

I made the curtain a while ago with scraps of french fabrics and i thought this gorgeous silk coat-hanger was a great way to tidy some necklaces.

hair pins

I love my sweet little ceramic dishes that I keep my bobby pins and brooches in.

Flying wall ducks brooch set

Let me introduce you to Shelbyville, she is a graphic designer by day, and moonlights as a designer-maker/artist/photographer for the rest of the time. On any given month she can be found behind a market stall at various zine fairs, writer’s festivals, and design/art markets.

Shelbyville products are pretty much a manifestation of their creator’s fascination with creating new uses for found vintage objects and materials, including game pieces, toys, vintage and found papers, pianola rolls, old-fashioned packaging labels, and such things.

The Shelbyville range which includes stickers, zines, brooches and pendants is available online through Etsy and Made it

Have a peek at the Shelbyville Blog which Michelle keeps up to date with current crafting projects, independent designers markets and places she likes to shop.

Smell the roses

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I know it’s thursday and another weekend is nearly upon us but this is the first chance I’ve had to sit down and write a post.

I had lots of fun in the shop on saturday hanging out with a lovely friend of mine who is a stylist.

Newspaper Taxi really is the type of store where you can lose track of time. I think my partner Matthew knows my time measurements by now. “Just a quick look” usually means over half an hour. I’m also a chit chatter which seems to exacerbate the problem. So a browse can turn into several hours. I’m also very indecisive, you should see me in the video store. Once I went to get some movies on my own and couldn’t make up my mind. Matt had come home and called me asking where I was, as the last I spoke to him was to say I was going to the video shop.  I was in the video store for 2 hours.

Last week I popped down to Broadway hoping to be home within a few hours. I was gone the whole day. About an hour was spent talking to a lovely Russian woman at the chemist who insisted on giving me samples of Apivita facial products because I “was so lovely and took the time to listen to her recommendations”. She even took me to another register just so she could serve me herself. I did go back the other day to thank her and let her know which samples I liked best, which she had asked me to do but she wasn’t there.

My friend Amy even commented that I looked great the day after my birthday dinner. I woke up feeling a wee bit hungover so I applied the Aqua plus face mask with cucumber wile I got ready for work. It worked a treat, I just love them!

I bought a whole bunch of the Apivita express facial range products to give as gifts. I always like to have an emergency gift on hand and these are just perfect. The range includes masks for face, body and hair. They come in a single use “Express”size, which fits quite nicely into a card and envelope that you could post to someone special. The next time you go past your local chemist , pop in and see if the Apivita range is available. My favorite was the honey hair mask, delicious!

Gourmet Article

We have just been featured in this months Australian Gourmet Traveller.

Have a peek online, the review is in the “March Gourmet News” section under “Extra Extra”.

We are very excited and proud to be included in Australian Gourmet and have had a great response already.

It’s a great issue, I love the look of the Agrarian Kitchen. The farm is so green and pretty. That’s my dream, I always wanted to live on a farm, have a big garden and grow my own vegetables, wear gumboots and have Geese as pets. Years ago my friend Renee and I were house sitting a gorgeous little house built next to a creek at “Rock Valley” (which is on the way out to Nimbin) and had to look after a gaggle of geese. Even though they honk and hiss, I love the way they waddle!

This morning Matt and I were post noting the pages of the new issue for recipes to try out, they all look so delicious. I’m going to make the Silverbeet Gratin and I can’t go past the Peach, Raspberry and Almond Crumble. I’ll let you know how they go!
