Look what the cat dragged in!

Oh my special little helper boy… He always does such a good job at getting into baskets and boxes, lying on the floor in peoples way and flopping around on the footpath to get the attention of passers by.

screenprint-1

The Paris parcel has arrived,  full of posters, cotton scarves, postcards and some very special limited edition screen prints!

The postcards include some of Nathalie’s new designs which are sure to be snapped up. We also have some beautiful posters of her recent work. I just love them! They would be perfect for a bedroom or you could even add a splash of colour and brighten up an office.

But the piece de resistance, her limited edition screen prints.

We only have a select few of these prints which are part of an edition of 50, so do I need to even say it? Be Quick!

Finders Keepers

Let me introduce you to the Finders Keepers. An independent design & art market founded in Sydney, that supports new and emerging independent design.

Newspaper Taxi is very proud to be a “featured shop” on the fabulous Finders Keepers Blog which is full of pictures, profiles and features from a select group of artists and designers.

I went to the last market which was on just before christmas and I was SO inspired by the amazing, creative talent from all the exhibitors. It was packed, repeat, packed and every where I turned there was an array of quirky designs and handmade treasures displayed in charming ways. I had such a great evening catching up with friends, doing my christmas shopping and saying hello to heaps of my Newtown customers.

The next market is on over the 15th and 16th of May, so pencil it in, tell your friends and say sorry to your piggy bank because you are bound to find yourself in a dilly of a pickle over what not to buy.

Hilary Herrmann

inner-chatter-of-an-equine1

This is a sneak peek at a Hilary Herrmann work called “The inner chatter of an equine”. My friend Natalie just acquired this piece along with another two of Herrmann’s recent works. They are fresh from the easel and I just adore them.

I don’t think I have ever seen an artist capture the feeling of the far north coast in a painting quite like Herrmann does. Those green rolling hills bring back strange hazy childhood memories. I see home when I look at her work. It is so beautiful and so strange at the same time and it just keeps getting better. I have been watching Hilary from afar and really think that the recent work is her best yet.

I’m very pleased to announce that Newspaper Taxi will now be stocking a select range of accessories and stationery from the studio of French artist Natalie Lete. Soon we will have a selection of Nathalie’s gorgeous brooches, scarves and postcards in store.

I am a huge fan of Nathalie Lete’s vibrant, playful work and I’m super duper jealous of her amazing studio. (Sigh)

Nathalie creates her work in many ways, mixing different techniques and mediums, illustration, ceramics, textile and painting… She is inspired by her travels, but also by the mixing of vintage toys and old engravings of flowers and animals. Her work is colourful, naive and poetic, sometimes strange, to the point of tending towards art brut.

She produces childrens illustrated books, knitted and stuffed toys, glass pictures, patterned dishes, and a range of postcards, ceramic sculptures, silkscreen prints, wool rugs and jewels in limited edition.

I just can’t wait to wear one of her beautiful Paris inspired brooches… I’ll let you know as soon as they arrive!
