Newtown Designers Markets

Posted in Downtown Newtown | 2 Comments »

Newtown Designers Market is on this Sunday the 21st of December!

This little treasure trove of handmade goodness is the work of Liz & Caz, 2 very crafty & Newtown loving sisters. The girls were looking for another creative outlet which would also support indie designers, and Newtown Designers Market was born.

The designers featured at the monthly markets hand make or produce products in small runs. You’ll find a great range of fashion, jewellery, bags, accessories, stationery and art!

It’s the perfect place for some last minute christmas shopping and for a shopping trip pit stop head down Australia street for some yummy food. Delicios brunch at “Barmuda” or some sweet treats at “Black Star Pastry”. Don’t leave without trying their famous rose petal jam.

The markets are located upstairs in the “Newtown Neighbourhood Centre” outside the “Hub” at the end of Australia street opposite Newtown train station.

Pompom Pudding

This is my wall collage above the counter. Jurianne sent me the cutest little pompom gift tag with the angels to wish me luck. The flowers are old drink coasters that were my grandmothers and all the rest are little pieces of paper ephemera I have found along the way.

I am so happy with the little pompom. It’s funny that I should be given one as my friend Natalie was saying just the other day how she wants to make a pompom rug. The colours are so lovely on my little one and it’s so soft. I just have to keep it up high so Mr Whiskers doesn’t get to it.

Luke has been helping me in the shop today. We finished making the Nanni Daddi Birds and were treated to a delicious bread and butter pudding from Black Star Bakery.
It was so lovely and It looked so amazing. Chris really takes a lot of pride in his pastry art. I didn’t even have time to take a picture, Luke and I ate it up quick smart!
I can describe it for you though, sweet bread, lots of plump sultanas, candied orange rind and vanilla bean custard. Yumyumyum X

I saw this unusual pale pink jam in the new bakery down the road and couldn’t resist. It’s a sweet jam with a sprinkle of pink petals and tastes just like turkish rose water.

I have been telling my customers about the jam all day. My lovely friend Jules bought one of our rose petal soaps so I suggested she try the jam. She just came back in to tell me she too had succumbed to the sweet relish and bought a jar.
Later on some boys came in to buy a gift and I was so jam crazy I put together a hamper in a vintage tin which included a jar of jam from down the road. It was one of the cutest little presents all wrapped up with luggage labels and jute in an old peanut tin.

On sunday Hannah and I shared a mid morning breakfast in the shop. No surprises for what we had. Rose petal jelly on sourdough with a cup of herbal tea.
